Definition of expressionism
Expressionism: Expressionism in modern literature can be referred to as any deliberate distortion of reality. In drama it applies to a style of play-writing emphasising emotional and symbolic or abstract representations of reality. In novels or short stories it involves the presentation of an objective outer world through intensified impressions and moods of characters.Examples: E. O’Neill’s The Emperor Jones, T. Williams’ The Glass Menagerie, A. Miller’s The Death of a Salesman.
