Definition of ssl-secure sockets layer

 

SSL-Secure Sockets Layer: A transport security mechanism that permits private communication between a browser and a Web server. The standard leverages public/private key encryption for an initial “handshake” that positively identifies the server using a digital certificate and passin a shared secret key used to encrypt the res o the communications between client and server.
