Definition of stripped bond
stripped bond: A financial security derived from an ordinary bond by an investment dealer who, for a profit sells claims against the coupon interest or face value of the underlying bond to investors in the marketplace. The financial claim is against a single cash flow that is promised by the original bond issuer many years into the future. Like a zero coupon bond, stripped bonds trade at substantial discounts from the face value (terminal value) of the security.
