Definition of compression

 

Compression: The effect of a force which tends to shorten an object in the direction of the force. Such a force is called a compressive force, and the object it acts on is said to be in compression. For example, the towers of a suspension bridge are in compression. (0).Compression molding: A forming process in which a powdered thermosetting plastic is placed in a heated mold cavity then compressed by a ram. After being compressed, the plastic solidifies, the ram retracts, and the part is ejected.
