Definition of tender

 

Many firms, organisations and other institutions (for example government) will put work or particular projects out to tender. This means that they are asking interested firms to put in a bid for how much they think the work will cost to carry out and details of how they propose to do the work (including timescales, specifications and so on). They will then review all these tenders to decide who to award the contract to.
