Definition of free market economy

 

A free market economy is a type of economic system for allocating resources where markets are used to allocate resources through the price mechanism. Supply and demand set a market price in each market. If a good is relatively scarce the price will be high and this will have the effect of ensuring that the scarce resources are effectively allocated.
