Definition of demarcation

 

Demarcation is where a particular task or job can only be carried out by a particular person. In the past there were often demarcation disputes where employees would not carry out roles or tasks that they felt should be done by another group of workers. Demarcation tends to reduce the flexibility of the labour force and much has been done in recent years to reduce the level of demarcation.
