De-layering is the process of flattening out an organisational hierarchy. This means reducing the number of layers of management. This process should speed-up decision-making and help vertical communication in the firm as well as allowing those who are directly affected by the decisions to be involved in the decision-making process. This is generally considered to help empower employees and improve their motivation.
