Definition of data protection act
The Data Protection Act 1984 is an Act of Parliament that aims to ensure that people have rights to know about any information that is held about them on computer by firms or government agencies. The act makes people or businesses register with the Data Protection Registrar and sets out conditions which users of data must comply with. It is a form of consumer protection legislation.
