Definition of current account surplus
The current account is the balance of a country's earnings from the export of goods and services less its expenditure on imports of goods and services. If the balance is positive then there is a current account surplus. In other words a current account surplus means that we have spent less on paying for imports of goods and services than we have earned from selling exports of goods and services.
