Definition of bank of england

 

The Bank of England is the Central Bank of the UK. The Bank of England is based in Threadneedle Street in the City of London. In 1997 the Labour government gave them operational independence and they are now responsible for maintaining low inflation. They set interest rates at a monthly meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee which is a committee of the bank with nine members.
