Definition of auditing

 

Auditing is the process of checking the financial statements of a firm to see that they give a 'true and fair' view of the state of the company's finances. All limited companies that produce their own accounts must have them checked by a firm of auditors and this is the one of the functions carried out by firms of accountants.
