Definition of subcutaneous fat

 

SUBCUTANEOUS FAT: External fat lying immediately under the hide or skin of an animal. Protects the carcass from excessive shrinkage during chilling. Usually trimmed during fabrication, then termed “waste fat” or “trimmed fat.”
