Definition of salmonella
SALMONELLA: A pathogenic bacterium that causes the most commonly reported foodborne illnesses. There are more than 1,600 types of Salmonella bacteria that cycle through the environment via the intestines of humans and animals. Most commonly found in raw or undercooked foods, such as eggs, poultry, meats and unpasteurized dairy products. Fresh beef has a low incidence of Salmonella as compared to other foods.
