Definition of organic

 

ORGANIC: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) sets out the approved methods, practices and substances used in producing and handling crops, livestock and processed agricultural products for the National Organic Program (NOP). Before a product can be labeled organic, a government-approved certifier inspects the farm where the food is grown to ensure compliance with NOP standards. Companies that handle or process organic food must also be certified.
