Definition of lean (used as a nutritional claim)
LEAN (USED AS A NUTRITIONAL CLAIM): The term “lean” may be used as a nutritional claim on a product provided the product contains less than 10 grams of fat, less than 4.5 grams of saturated fat and less than 95 milligrams of cholesterol per 100 grams of product and per reference amount. The term “extra lean” may be used as a nutritional claim on a product provided the product contain less than 5 grams of fat, less than 2 grams of saturated fat, and less than 95 milligrams of cholesterol per 100 grams of product and per reference amount.
